Cholesterol Control Meal Plans

Controlling cholesterol involves a lot of aspects, including diet. Perhaps the first place to start is by removing hydrogenated oils from the diet. This alone will help decrease the bad LDL cholesterol. Also, choose healthy monounsaturated fats and omega 3 fatty acids to be the main sources of fat in your diet. Finally, don't feel like - just because they're healthy fats - you can eat as much as you want. Even healthy fats can be over-consumed so focus on eating in control. Here are some sample menus to provide you guidance to do just that.

5 Day Meal Plan

Breakfast
  • Apple slices and almond butter, coffee
  • Fresh or dried figs with walnuts, coffee or tea
  • Bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, apple and/or banana and chopped walnuts
  • Handful of walnuts and a couple of dried figs
  • Coffee or tea
  • Banana slices dipped in almond butter
  • Coffee or tea
Lunch
  • Vegetable soup, piece of baguette in olive oil with herbs of choice
  • Salad with balsamic vinaigrette
    Recipe book
  • End with a glass of green tea
  • Tuna Fish Lettuce Wraps: 1 can tuna,1 teaspoon Dejon mustard, 1/2 Tablespoon olive oil, diced tomato, diced white onion, pinch of dried oregano. Serve on lettuce wraps.
  • End with some trail mix (nuts, dark chocolate chips, raisins)
  • Avocado, tomato sandwich on multigrain bread, fruit salad, cup of iced tea
  • Hummus, tomato, mint sandwich
  • Roasted cauliflower
